20 Do It Yourself Wedding Ideas Part 1
You’ve waited for the perfect time to get married. You and your fiance have good jobs and make decent money but you’d rather spend your hard-earned savings on the down payment of a house rather than on one night’s party. You realize you’ll only have one wedding in your life and you want it to be really special, but you figure why pay a wedding planner when there’s a wonderful thing called the internet right at your fingertips?
Well, it looks like you’ve found the jackpot! We’ve brainstormed 20 unique do it yourself wedding planning ideas that are budget-conscious but still enrich your wedding with FUNctionality and make it truly one-of-a-kind.
We’ve broken it down into 4 posts so as not to overwhelm you! Part 1 will focus on new ways to communicate your wedding plans to your friends and family:
1. Start a wedding blog! It might take a little bit of work up-front, but in the end you’ll save a lot of time distributing information to everyone the old-fashioned way. Anyone with an internet connection will be able to get updates on hotels, travel, how you got engaged, bridal showers, your registries, etc. There are pre-formatted blogs and pages on wedding sites, but I highly recommend using WordPress. It’s completely free, they have plenty of templates to choose from, and you can choose how public or private you’d like your site and/or posts to be.
2. On that note, start a twitter account for you and your fiance (together). You can follow your favorite wedding sites and designers to constantly get new ideas. Plus, your friends and family can feel like they’re part of the process with your mini-blog posts. While you’re at it, if you’re changing your name go ahead and reserve your twitter handle so you know it’s there after it’s all legal!
3. If you don’t mind the whole world seeing your wedding details go ahead and set up a Facebook Fan page. You can keep people in the know and have it be the hub for your friends and family to see your engagement unfold. You can always delete it if you change your mind.
4. There’s no perfect way to tell your friends and family that you’d rather have cash than a gift registry. Skip registering at multiple stores and go straight to a site like MyRegistry.com. You can pick gifts from any store you’d like or you can add custom buttons to contribute to your honeymoon or for that shiny new granite countertop you want to put in your kitchen.
We hope this will help you get started on your dream wedding, do it yourself style. If even one of these is a new idea for you, we’ve done our job today. Stay tuned for Parts 2-4 of our series!
